2013 Sequel challenge

I don't know about you guys, but I'm horrible at reading the first book in a series and then thinking I can't wait to read the second and so on and then never getting to it. So here is what I'm doing to fix that. :)

Here are just a few of the series I've started, and I'm a little behind on that will be getting my attention in 2013.

1. Shiver, Linger, and Forever: I've only read the first book and I'm not sure why. I adored the characters in shiver.
2. Halo, Hades: I read Halo and was kind of iffy on it so I never read Hades.
3. The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay: Okay...okay...I read the first two but still haven't read Mockingjay.
4. Firelight, Vanish, Hidden: Again, I wasn't thrilled with Firelight so I was reluctant to start Vanish, but maybe it redeem itself.
5. Wake, Fade, and Gone: I only read Wake and I think it was the way it was written that turned me off, but it was an interesting storyline.
6. Hush Hush, Crescendo, Silence, Finale: I read the first two and just haven't gotten to the others. I actually need to get Finale.
7. Unearthly,Hallowed- I read Unearthly and enjoyed it now I think its time to read the second one.
8. Nightshade, Wolfsbane, and Bloodrose: I recently just finished Wolfsbane so one more book in this series and I'm done.
9. Radiance, Shimmer, and Dreamland: I've read the first and it was a cute little story. The books themselves are not all that long so they should be easy to read.
10. The unbecoming of Mara Dyer and the Evolution of Mara Dyer: I really did love the first book with all it's creepiness and of course Noah Shaw, but I haven't even bought the second book which I need to do.

I'm sure those aren't all of them, but it's the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Some might get read while I might add others as they come to mind.

Book Review: Endlessly by Kiersten White

AUTHOR: Kiersten White
PAGES: 385
STAND ALONE/SERIES: Book 3 in the paranormalcy series
SOURCE: bought

Evie's paranormal past keeps coming back to haunt her. A new director at the International Paranormal Containment Agency wants to drag her back to headquarters. The Dark Faerie Queen is torturing humans in her poisonous realm. And supernatural creatures keep insisting that Evie is the only one who can save them from a mysterious, perilous fate.

The clock is ticking on the entire paranormal world. And its fate rests solely in Evie's hands.

So much for normal.

I knew When I started this series I would fall in love with the characters, regardless of their sometimes stupid actions. So it's no surprise that I adored Endlessly the third and final installment of the Paranormalcy series.

It was actually a breath of fresh air. I was hoping the brilliance that is Kiersten White would resurface in Endlessly because I was a little let down by Supernaturally. I wanted to get back to laughing at Evie's humor, and see Evie and Lend happy. Not let what they are get in the way. If you love someone you're there for them no matter what. I think it was just the middle book syndrome that series tend to get.

Evie came back with a punch. Her sarcastic yet witty sense of humor was back in action. I fell in love all over again. As with paranormalcy I loved lend to pieces. Everything he did just earned him that much more love.

In the first two books there were a few characters that I actually disliked because of the arrogance and wanting to control everything. If you've read the series then maybe you can guess which ones. One was in book 1 and 2. The other showed up in book 2. Reth was Evies faerie ex who I despised. He only seemed to care when it benefited him. I just wanted Evie to tase him. He did revive himself in Endlessly even with his manipulation he grew on me and in the end I felt connected to him and I hated to see him in the shape he was in, and you could tell Evie felt the same way. The second was Jack who appeared in book 2. Jack was a human who grew up in the faerie realms, and in book 2 tried to get Evie to do some craptastic things. again, his character grew in this book, and I actually started to enjoy his snarky attitude. I especially loved reading his conversations with lend.

Book Review: 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher

AUTHOR: Jay Asher
PUBLISHER: Razorbill
PAGES: 304
SOURCE: bought

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

"Some of us will be to angry at Hannah for killing herself and blaming everyone else." pg-280 This sentence pretty much sums up the way I was feeling after I started the book.

.Hannah to me already seemed a bit cruel from her tapes. I was ready to dismiss her character, and not feel anything for her.Thinking she wanted to blame anyone, but herself. I mean she'd get over it eventually right? Wrong! Sadly, this seems to be the way people think. People with feelings like Hannah's (maybe not even as drastic) will never get over it entirely. No amount of therapy, medicine, or anything will ever get rid of the feelings completely. It may suppress them, but never diminish them. Like Hannah said it's a snowball effect. One thing happens and it just keeps progressing from there.

Maybe, your wondering how I can sit here and say this? Well I didn't go through what Hannah went through. I did have my own problems. Problems I thought were bad enough that I wasn't happy with life and wanted it to end. I wrote poems about death, suicide, cutting, love I felt I didn't deserve, the life I hated, The only difference I knew I couldn't go through with it. I was weak or strong however you want to look at it. In the end I grew from it. I knew things weren't always going to be good, but you only need that one person to care, and to tell you they care to make life worth something. It took me 26 years to find that person.

My point is had Hannah found that someone...had she let Clay in...things would have been different. I think if her counselor would have listened more, and not just said those generic things counselors say...things would be different. If people understood that what they say and do affects others more then they know...things would have been different.

13 reasons why is definitely a heart-wrenching tale of how rumors can ruin not just that persons life, but everyone involved in that persons life.

I think it's one of those books that people need to read, and understand that their actions will cause reactions in others whether good or bad that's unknown.

As for the characters like I said Hannah really pissed me off at first, but then as you read on and learn about her and her story things fall into place. You come to understand why she's being that way, why she felt she had to go about it the way that she did. I really truly liked Clay. He seemed like he cared alot for Hannah. My only problem with him is that he gave up on her to easy. If you care for someone don't give up on them.

Not so bookish: I don't know what to do.

-Warning this has nothing to do with books-
This is me being pissed at CVS.

If you know anything about me then you know I work for CVS. Why then am I pissed at them? Easy, it seems lately like they don't care about their employees. To be honest I adore my store, but I really could care less for the store that my fiance works at (my old store). Reason one: They give him 6 hours a week. Please...PLEASE tell me who can afford to live off 6 hours a week. What's worse is they are doing this shit around Christmas time.  He's been with the store almost 3 years and there are techs who have been there less than a year who get more hours them him. How is this fair?

Then today apparently he was suppose to be at work at 2 and he thought 4 (because that's he's normal schedule) so he gets ready and goes in. He's not there 5 minutes before they pull him to the back and tell him that he's suspended for being late, and his job depends on what the front store district manager says. Guys this manager has nothing to do with pharmacy, and  only comes to our store when the front is doing something wrong. So why then does he get to hold the fate of this job in his hands? It's complete bull. I understand he was late..he didn't look at the schedule right...he's been late...but guess what so has every other person that works at that store. Everyone makes a mistake...everyone looks at the schedule wrong sometimes...There are some of those people who've been late 2 or 3 hours and were their jobs on the line...no! I could over look this if this wasn't the first or second time they have treated him like shit, but it's been numerous times. For instance a month or two back. He called in a few hours a head of time to them telling them he was sick. They got pissy about it, and told him no he had to come in, or he was getting written up. So instead of he getting written up he said fine I'll come in. I'll be there in a few hours. When he got there guess what...they took him to the back and gave him the write up anyways, even though he came to work feeling like crap. Who does this? What makes this worse is the way our pharmacist acted when they told him. He said that she had this grin on her face like that's what you get.

I'm just so fed up with the way he gets treated. he doesn't know what to do? I don't know what to say to him. He tells me he feels like a failure. He wanted this to be a good Christmas since it was our first on our own together. What do I do? How do I tell him it'll be okay.. When honestly I don't know?

Waiting on Wed:Shadow of the mark by Leigh Fallon

Waiting on Wed is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
It's something that she does every Wed where we pick a book that hasn't been released yet.

AUTHOR: Leigh Fallon
PUBLISHER: Harper Teen
Life for Megan Rosenberg just got a lot more complicated.

While she evoked the air element, and her feelings for Adam intensified, a web of lies, deceit, and betrayal was spun around her. With the Order tightening its hold, and the reinstatement of the Mark Knights, Megan has more questions than answers as the Marked Ones grow in strength.

New people arouse suspicion, the DeRises start behaving strangely, and Megan begins to unravel a destiny shrouded in mystery. It’s a destiny the Order has struggled to hide, and a destiny someone from the past… far in the past, has already laid claim to.

Alliances will be made, and friends will be lost, as the Order’s dark secrets are revealed by the very thing they sought to destroy

Why I chose this:
I read the Carrier of the mark a few weeks back, and really enjoyed it. Now I can't wait to see what happens with Adam and Megan and the rest of the family.

What are you waiting on this week?

So I read wake which is pretty good, but I have yet to read the final two books. I might use these for a challenge next year.

Okay, I haven't read any Melissa Marr books. -gasp- I know right? I do have the entire Wicked Lovely series though. Plus, these two books look totally awesome, and Carnival of Souls just came out a few months back and for now its 2 dollars.

Sharing with the group (IMM)

It has been for ever and a day since I've done one of these. I suppose it's because I really haven't been to the bookstores in the past 4 or 5 months, but with Christmas coming up my family keeps asking what I want and I just say books or giftcards to bookstores. My mom decides instead she'll just take me to the bookstore now, and let me pick what I want. That is exactly what I did, and I got some awesome books. Oh, and yesterday my fiance comes home with the kindle fire. Yes, that's my Christmas present from him. It's pretty much all I wanted. I don't actually get to have it until Christmas. Which is fine because his gifts, which he knows about (3 different things of tools so he can work on his car, a video game for his xbox and a cd.) are wrapped as well. Anyways, off subject so this haul is actually a few months worth of books.
